ABC's of Salvation
I think that many of us would agree that we are living in the last moments of world history as we know it and that the Lord will be returning sooner than any of us could imagine. YET, there is STILL time to reach the lost. To move people closer to Jesus and if the LORD would deem fit to give you the profound privilege, and it is a profound privilege, to lead them to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.
Today I am going to go over a very simple ABC method to equip you if the LORD leads you in situations with others who need what Jesus offers.
The A is for admitting or acknowledging that you are a sinner. That you have sinned and that you need the Savior. Roman 3:10 says there is no one righteous not even one. In Romans 3:23 tells us why. It is because all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Romans 6:23 starts with the bad news first and then the good news, which I think is so good when we share our faith with people. It is to start with the bad news that there is NO hope. Our only hope is in Jesus Christ, who came to this earth, was crucified buried, and rose again from the dead on the third day, and He is coming back again one day. So I think it is important too, and you would think that they get it. Still, the number one thing that you are up against when you talk to people about Jesus is they really honestly believe they are a good person and that that is why if you were to ask them: do you think you would go to heaven? Yes. Why? Because I’m a good person. I’ve never murdered anybody.
Actually there is going to be a lot of good people in Hell. And a lot of very bad sinners in Heaven. And I will be at the front of that line – a sinner but saved by grace. And many of you will be right behind me.
So our belief in our goodness or badness is not the gauge by which you are allowed entrance into Heaven. It is not your righteousness. Isaiah says your and my righteousness is filthy as rags. It is Christ’s inputed righteousness. See, He came, and He paid the sin debt, for you see the death penalty because of the wages of sin is death. So Jesus went to His death in your stead. He paid in full for the gift. He paid for it, and that is what Romans 6:23 says: For the wages of sin is death, BUT the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
The B is for believing in your heart that Jesus Christ is LORD and that God raised Him from the dead. Romans 10: 9 – 10 says if you believe in your heart that God raised Jesus from the dead, you will be saved. Believing in your heart is a conscious decision that Jesus IS Lord. That God raised Him from the dead. And if you waiver in that belief – then pray and ask GOD to show you that belief is the truth. Pray for faith to believe.
And the C lastly is for people to call upon the name of the Lord, or as Romans 10:9 – 10 also says, if you CONFESS with your mouth, Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you WILL BE saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.
